Korean Language Program Director, Columbia University
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for the position of Director of the Korean Language Program, at the rank of senior lecturer, to begin July 1, 2017. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful review.
Applicants should have extensive experience in teaching Korean at the university-level to native speakers of English; demonstrated exceptional teaching achievement at all levels (level 1 through level 5) with both heritage and non-heritage learners; and be familiar with instructional technology. Demonstrated knowledge of web-based and other computer oriented applications for the production of learning materials is desirable. PhD in a relevant field of study is highly preferred.
Applicants should have substantial teaching experience with documented evidence of pedagogical excellence and proof of professional growth. Candidates must possess evidence of excellence in carrying out administrative responsibilities, including ability to hire and nurture outstanding language lecturers and to be active externally in the field of Korean language studies.
Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester and close collaboration with Korean studies faculty and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures to advance Korean language study both on campus and abroad and to build a rigorous and cohesive Korean studies program in the humanities and social sciences.
