Thank you for your support!
Please join us in our efforts to promote Korean Studies at Columbia University and beyond.
CKR would like to thank Il Hwan and Soon Ja Cho, owners of a New Jersey-based sportswear company, for generously donating $1.5 million in support of Korean studies at Columbia. Coupled with a matching donation under the Lenfest Challenge established in 2006 by University Trustee Gerry Lenfest (LAW’58), their gift enabled the creation of the Il Hwan and Soon Ja Cho Professorship of Korean Culture and Religions. Seong Uk Kim joined the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and CKR in Fall 2017 as the first Il Hwan and Soon Ja Cho Assistant Professor of Korean Culture and Religions, with special emphasis on Korean Buddhism. Professor Kim complements three existing chairs in Korean history and literature, as well as several professorships in Buddhist studies and other Asian religions.
Furthermore, CKR gratefully acknowledges the funding received from the following organizations and individuals:
- Columbia Alumni Association of Korea
- The Academy of Korean Studies
- The Korea Foundation
- The Shin Family gift
Please support the CKR to continue to promote Korean Studies and to raise public awareness of Korean issues, and to further reach out to other constituencies in New York City, and beyond.
We appreciate any support from individuals, private foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
* Your contribution will be honored on the CKR website/brochures/newsletter.
* We appreciate a gift of any amount, but for contributions of $40,000 and above, we will establish an endowment account at the CKR in your name.
