The Center for Korean Research launches a redesigned website and new leadership, debuting with a full slate of fall programming during its welcome fall tea reception on September 25.

The Center for Korean Research (CKR) at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute is pleased to announce the official launch of its redesigned and improved website. The site gives Korean Studies at Columbia a vital new hub for representing its faculty, promoting public programs and other activities, and showcasing publications, among much else.

The website is just the most recent sign of a resurgent CKR. Ruth Barraclough, Columbia’s new Korea Foundation Associate Professor of Modern Korean History in the Department of History, was appointed the Center’s new Director at the start of 2025, and Peter Yoon came on as its new Assistant Director in July.

CKR has already scheduled a robust slate of programming for the fall semester, with seven events on its calendar at the time of writing; topics range from domestic life in the Chosŏn era to modernist mid-20th-century fiction to North Korea’s nuclear program.

On September 25, CKR celebrated the launch of its new site and kicked off the semester with a welcome tea reception for its vibrant community of faculty, lecturers, students, and supporters of Korean Studies. Enjoy the party photos, and we hope to see you at one of our events before long.
